To sustain everyday wear and tear, your teeth must be structurally solid. Extensive decay or extreme trauma can seriously damage a tooth. In these cases, a simple filling won’t restore the tooth to full capacity, so Dr. Feintuch will likely recommend a crown.

Also called a cap, a dental crown reinforces the injured tooth and strengthens the remaining tooth structure. A crown completely covers the tooth area above the gum line. Depending on the location of the tooth, Dr. Feintuch may suggest an all-ceramic, porcelain-fused-to-metal (PFM), or gold crown. Generally, all-ceramic crowns work best for teeth visible in the smile zone, and PFM or gold crowns offer stability for back teeth.

Plan on two visits for crown placement. At the first appointment, Dr. Feintuch will remove decay, take impressions for the permanent restoration, and place a temporary crown. We will send the molds of your tooth to a dental lab, where skilled technicians will create your permanent crown. You will return for adjustments and final placement when we receive your custom crown in our office.
